Winners are grinners this week, with every position in the Team of the Week fielded by a player in a winning team. If ever there was a week we were going to put a striker as goalkeeper this would be the week, with a 29 goal, action-packed round of overall one-sided football. We did pick a ‘keeper in the finish with some attacking talent very unlucky to miss the cut.
Olympia FC Warriors put together perhaps the most impressive and most attractive half of football we have seen in season 2015, with 10 shots on target and seven goals in an amazing opening half from the ladder leaders. The seven goals included a couple of absolute sizzles and some brilliant buildup play. Such was their dominance, that there are four Warriors in the Team of the Week but there could have been more such was their dominance! Warren Wadawu was dynamite down the flank with a showcase of brilliant crossing. Gavin Hoy combined with his strike force with some amazing link up play and was relentless as he ran in wave after wave at the City defence. Given this week’s embarrassment of attacking riches we couldn’t sneak either of the Warriors weapons in.
South Hobart also had an impressive victory, demolishing Kingborough Lions 5-0 at Lightwood Park. The reigning champions look back close to their best and while they had three in this week’s side there were stars across the park. Darcy Hall set the tone for the rout in an electric first half hour from the youngster, Hugh Undy was busy through midfield with sharp movement and passing, while Brayden Mann struck a well-taken brace. Unfortunately despite dominating these guns also didn’t make the final cut.
Northern Rangers heaped more pain onto the struggling Glenorchy Knights with a 12-1 smashing. Most of the team got on the scoresheet with eight different scorers but we could only fit two Rangers into this week’s 11. Alex Rossetto was perhaps the most unlucky to miss out, hitting a hat trick in the belting.
Zebras snuck home past Devonport City despite giving them a head start, the Zebras reeled in Devonport with two second half goals seeing them take maximum points from the meeting. Jayden Hey continued his strong form as he continues to be a very reliable utility through midfield and defence but he misses out this week after a few weeks as a mainstay in the team. Devonport although going down had some notable performers with playing coach Bobby Eaves providing grunt in midfield and Kieran Mulraney a strong pillar in defence.
Onto those that did make the 11 and why!
